August 28th Meeting Reminder and Agenda

Don't Forget!

Come out to Ridgewater College in Hutchinson on August 28th for the quarterly Minnesota River Watershed Alliance meeting.

This quarterly meeting is a great chance to hear what is going on in the MN River Basin.

When: Tuesday, August 28th

Time: 6 p.m. Social hour and potluck - bring your favorite salad dish to share. Those of you not into slicing/dicing could bring plates/utensils or drinks.

7 p.m. Formal Meeting


Below is a draft agenda for business meeting starting at 7 pm:
- BRIEF Updates: Sauerkraut Days Event, Mayors’ fishing opener, SD Friendship Tour
- Discussion about Blueway Project and 50th anniversary paddle event next summer. There are many sub-topics to discuss here including nomination process, coordinator, communication plan, youth engagement, partnership opportunities. May need separate meeting or small group break-out approach to cover everything.
- MRWA Coordination Process going forward: who will do what?
- Set meeting dates for the rest of the year and how we will work social hour

Job Announcement: Director of Environmental Programs for Upper Sioux Community


JOB ANNOUNCEMENT



TITLE:  Director of Environmental Programs

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Board of Trustees

OPENING DATE: August 1, 2012

CLOSING DATE: August 24, 2012 or Until Filled

LOCATION: Upper Sioux Community, Granite Falls, MN

SALARY:  Range $46-52k, D.O.Q.



The Upper Sioux Community is seeking a highly skilled person to fill the position of Director of Environmental Programs. The Upper Sioux Community maintains and administers a wide range of environmental programs based upon the tribal community’s needs and priorities, federal laws, tribal laws, and federal program delegations. The Director is responsible for all aspects of Environmental Programs operations and administration of EPA grant programs including personnel, financial, contract and grants management, quality assurance management, program development and maintenance, liaison activities with other governments, tribal elected officials and tribal members, and facilities and equipment maintenance. The Director will supervise the Office of the Environment staff and contractors as needed. Experience working with Native American communities is useful.   Frequent local and occasional overnight travel required.



EDUCATION:                     

BA/BS (Master's preferred) in Environmental Science, Physical or Natural Science, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Policy and Planning, Law, or related field or a combination of experience and training which demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Substantial experience in an administrative and/or supervisory position with proven project management and budget administration skills. 
  2. Knowledge and experience with environmental regulatory programs. 
  3. Experience working with Federal, State, and local agencies and knowledge of program reporting requirements. 
  4. Previous knowledge and experience working with Tribal Governments and tribal culture is recommended. 
  5. Must have excellent grant/report writing, general written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work well with other professionals and members of the community.
  6. Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record and be insurable.
